Michael Pacitti has spent more than four decades in the custom picture framing and home decor industry—as a consultant, designer, educator, author, and industry specialist. His career has combined hands-on knowledge of framing with a deep interest in design history, period styles, moulding, color, and the visual relationship between artwork and frame.

Through years of teaching, trade shows, museum and gallery visits, international travel, and work with framing manufacturers and distributors, Michael has developed a practical approach to framing built around one central idea: better design begins with better understanding.

His work has taken him throughout North America and Europe, including extensive collaboration with Italian moulding manufacturers and framing professionals. That experience continues to shape his teaching, consulting, and writing today.

Readers sometimes ask how AI fits into my books, so here is exactly where I stand.

The knowledge in these books is mine. The descriptions of mouldings, the way motifs are arranged and classified, and the design frameworks come from more than forty years in custom framing and years of studying mouldings in person.

Long before AI existed, I was showing images from my own files at seminars with custom picture framers around the world.
The close-up moulding photographs are my own.
I took them on my travels in galleries, palaces, temples, churches, and museums.

I do use AI as a tool, in four limited ways:

Illustrations. Some ideas can't be photographed, or would raise copyright problems if I used existing artwork. For those, I used AI to create images that show the idea as I picture it. One example is Napoleon in a gallery of the art gathered during his campaigns. I'm not an illustrator, so AI let me show my thinking.

The Motif Library. The original images are mine. AI helped adjust them so contrast and focus stay consistent throughout the book.

Fact-checking. The historical information comes from my personal files, and I used AI to help check it for accuracy.

Proofreading and Layout. I used AI to check grammar, spelling, and layout so the writing flows well. The ideas and words are mine.

I believe readers should know how a book was made, and I'm happy to answer questions about mine.
